APIC UK was established to take a “fresh look” at infection control in hospitals using the broadest possible ethos and an unusually pragmatic perspective. Our ultimate goal is to help to eliminate HCAIs.
Through communication with members and considerable on-going research we have created a comprehensive, cross-discipline forum for the collection, dissemination and discussion of information relating to all infection control matters in the healthcare arena. We are a members-only organisation with the ability to impartially incorporate comment from any interested party.
APIC UK provides a new platform to provide even greater emphasis on this potentially fatal, unacceptably expensive and notoriously emotive subject. The Association obviously addresses the need for ‘basics’ such as proper hand-washing, the use of correct apparel, the correct treatment of waste, the correct disposal of sharps, and so on… but we also take things a step further, looking at environmental solutions. Hospitals are built to strict regulations, but with more thought, greater collaboration and informed design input, these same buildings can themselves become effective barriers to infection. APIC UK places great importance on these ‘built-in’ solutions and advocates a much more significant alliance between the hospital and the product manufacturer.
Since its inception, APIC UK has voiced these issues, ideas and opinions in its own official journal, In Control which is highly regarded within the sector and provides a useful resource for today’s healthcare professional.
